Discover San Antonio and Austin, Texas

Exploring Texas is a fantastic experience. The state offers a plethora of outdoor activities, vibrant cities, and a diverse culinary landscape. During my recent trip, I spent time exploring San Antonio and Austin. While it is often said that everything is bigger in Texas, I found that everything moves swiftly as well. The speed limits on the highways seem more like suggestions than strict rules, presenting both advantages and disadvantages.

My travel planning typically revolves around securing a sleek and sporty rental car, followed by investigating the local dining scene and outdoor adventures. Upon landing in San Antonio, I arranged for the car of my choice before embarking on a scenic drive to Austin, which proved to be half the adventure in a convertible Mustang and a thoughtfully curated 80's & 90's rock playlist.

Texas offers a variety of excellent dining options, including Tex-Mex, BBQ, and Italian cuisine. Rita's restaurant located along the River Walk in the Alamo serves delicious Tex-Mex dishes by combining BBQ and Mexican influences to produce unforgettable flavors. Black's BBQ in Austin stands out for serving the most exceptional brisket I've ever tasted, featuring thick cuts and perfectly smoked meat. For genuine Italian cuisine, be sure to visit Pieous. Their expertly crafted wood-fired pizzas and cured meats left a lasting impression. For a diverse selection of food trucks, Austin is the place to go, as it boasts a vibrant food truck culture.

If you're looking for an inclusive outdoor experience, consider visiting Pedernales Falls. A brief and simple walk from the parking area will lead you to the falls. You can enjoy the scenic overlook or proceed to the boulders to admire the sights and sounds. Note that swimming is prohibited due to past accidents, but there are shallow sections for crossing to access the boulders and enjoy different perspectives.

My top pick was definitely Oasis Texas. This Southwestern-themed outdoor shopping center boasts multiple levels with views of Lake Travis, providing stunning scenery. Offering a variety of dining and drinking options at different price points, along with live music and a remarkable deck view, it's the perfect place to unwind and take in the gorgeous sunsets.
